Despite the circumstances, the weather in Michigan was really glorious. At the end of a long day at the hospital we would go back to the lake house. i spent some time laying in the grass staring up at the sky just thinking. My aunt is still with us....we are hoping she will be able to leave the hospital and move into the hospice. I think she'll be a little more at peace there. No one really likes a hospital.

Hi lovely LiveJournal friends. I hope all is well in your worlds. Personally I'm going through a bit of a rough patch. I'm in Michigan with my family as we take care of my favorite aunt (Tante Maria) who has fallen ill and is hospitalized. It's extremely sad...I am so happy to be here with my family though. I know I made the right decision. I've been spending my days at the hospital so evenings it has been a bit therapeutic to hop online and read and post (blog, flickr etc) kind of "business as usual". While of course I never forget it is simply a welcome distraction.
*sigh*
She led a most wonderful, wonderful life...but its still very sad to realize she might not be with us much longer.
*double sigh*

So I bought this crazy tiny hat back in January. I was giggling when I saw them on the little table. I have always hated the tiny top hat or the tiny cowboy hat (it's soooo "In Living Color" and those "Two Snaps!" guys), but then I tried this little sucker on and I have to say I loved it. There was a straw boater hat too that I almost bought, which made me feel very Liza Doolittle.....but this was the winner. I know I look a tad absurd, but I gotta say I love the damn thing!! How you guys doing today??

One of my all-time favorite movies is My Fair Lady (and despite the Julie Andrews debacle, I think Audrey Hepburn's Eliza Dolittle is brilliant).

So when I caught yet another video from that darn Britain's Got Talent....well, I couldn't help but be charmed. This show is seriously killing me.

How's every bunny doing out there??

Hey, remember me?? I've missed you guys, although thankfully many of you are on Flickr and I've been able to keep up with you that way. I've decided to leap back into the world of blogging and I hope I can reconnect with all my old LJ pals. I don't know if any of you are even reading this (or if you've given up on me!) but I am struggling with WHAT to focus on, in my new blog. (I'm going to be giving Blogger a whirl...I think I have a lil more control over thangs, although i still love my LJ!)

I was wondering if I could get your help/advice. When you used to read my LJ, what kind of things did you enjoy reading about most? These are the things I think I used to write about:

+ Initially in my LJ i talked alot about pop culture. In the early days I loved chatting about Project Runway, Top Model and all that fun stuff. But there are so many professional sites now from Perez to Project Rungay....is this boring??

+ I would talk about girlie stuff that I liked or found (beauty products, shoes etc)

+ Vintage goodies that I had found thrifting or that I saw on ebay

+ This little guy named Wolfie who invaded my life FIVE years ago....he started to become the new focus of things around these parts and I felt like my posts were more about being a mom.

+ The Devil-Ettes. I liked posting about my crazy dance group and what we were up to.

I can't remember what else I did....but it would be so helpful to hear what stuff you enjoyed reading about most. And seriously, don't feel like you have to say "Oh of course we loved hearing about being a mom". Honestly there are so many mommy bloggers out there. I'd love to try and do something a little bit different...part of me feels like I should talk about me and my life, because heck that's what I know best. But i also love girlie things and pop culture and think "I get enough of ME in my day to day life. Maybe I should write about other stuff." I love the idea of just posting visual inspiration too.

Thoughts? Advice? Tips?? HELP!

For quite some time now we have played host to a very special little guest. Miss Violet from Australia. She's one of Christina's (orriettacat) girls and she's been so much fun to have. She was the perfect houseguest (so sweet) and now that it was time to go, we knew we had to give her a proper send off. After much consultation, the girls decided that a good old-fashioned American Slumber Party was called for!

Once everyone was in their jammies, the fun began. Of course a major selection of sweets is always the first order of business. I think Violet was a little overwhelmed by all the choices.

Well hello. Long time no talk. Rather than bore you with an annoying post about how busy life has been (because really, I"m sure you guys are all just as busy), I'll just cut to the chase. Some pretty cool stuff has been happening. Most recently? I met Kanye West. THE DAY AFTER THE GRAMMYS. It was crazy! And i didn't just meet him, I had an iced cappucino with him!!!! It was so cool and ridiculous. We're doing a project with him at my work, and I get this email saying "good news! Kanye is ON. But he can only meet Monday. we're going to LA immediately." We met him at the Chateau Marmont, which was cool and crazy in and of itself. He sat right across from me and told me my necklace was dope. I was dying. And for the record, he was really really fab. Charming, on time, smart, totally funny. I was kind of in awe. Damn. I mean, the day after the Grammys, he could have been hungover, in a crabby mood or even cancelled. And he was AWESOME. I love him.

This was the necklace that Kanye liked.

A few weeks ago I busted out this ice cream maker that we got for our wedding (FIVE years ago) and that I have only used once. I'm officially obsessed with it. It's so easy to make ice cream and sooooo yummy. We're going to some friend's for a BBQ tomorrow and the ice cream was such a hit they asked me to make it again. The request was for one rich-n-creamy "real" ice cream and one lighter sorbet. I made a vanilla bean and kahlua with shavings of Scharffenberger dark chocolate and then a strawberry/peach/champagne sorbet. I can't wait to try them tomorrow! Work has been so absolutely insane lately (lots of fun projects, thankfully, but just WAY too much work...I'm working late alot and have no time to relax...so i'm soooo looking forward to tomorrow!).

Honestly, making ice cream is really pretty easy. The sorbet starts with fresh organic strawberries and some yummy peaches.

Last weekend we went to the Alameda County Fair which was a blast. I hadn't been in ages and I loved seeing all the rides and the vendors. It was awesome.

Wolfie is obsessed with pop corn. He was intrigued by all the rides but I m pleased to announce that he is officially a lil chicken, like his mama, and refused to go on a single one. That's mah boy!

Greg's kiddie band, The Time Outs, were invited to play, which was really cool. Sadly tragedy struck when a scuffle involving Wolfie's Spider Man balloon resulted in him doing a major face plant on the metal bleachers. Of course I had literally turned away from him for 30 seconds (the first time the entire day). My friend Kim came over with him sobbing and holding his face....blood streaming down his little hand. I was freaking out as this was his first big injury. I hugged and cuddled him to calm him down and then set to work mopping up the blood. Once we got him cleaned up we saw that his chin was bruised, his top flip split (and gettin' fatter by the moment), he was bleeding inside his mouth AND he chipped his front tooth. Oy! Poor little man. He was very brave. Of course through his sniffles he was able to say, "Mama....i want...ice cream please." So we got him a cone and I swear it helped the swelling on his lip go down. We are still trying to get him to the dentist because he's been complaining that it hurts when he eats. (Not everything hurts....but if he bites funny it hurts. I'm thinking its not the tooth though and might just be the soreness. It prolly felt like getting socked in the face). Greg missed out on the drama because he was in the middle of playing, but of course I snapped a quick pic. I'm terrible, i know.
But you know you wanna see....

HI guys! OK, so did I drop the ball on our top model roundtable or what??? Ack! I ended up having to go to New York for a few days...and that is where I am right now. I haven't been on a work trip all year, so it was kind of fun. We stayed at a place called The Alex Hotel, and it made me giggle every time I said that name. "I'm really liking The Alex." It's like I was that guy on Seinfeld who talked in the third person. ["Jimmy's getting angry!!" remember that one??] "The Alex is pretty cool." haha. Needless to say, I loved the hotel. Fancy enough to be luxurious but not an annoying "scene." And with work paying for it it was extra fab! But most fab of all was the reason I was here. To interview Petra Nemcova, supermodel. OY! The woman is gorrrrrgeous. And very sweet and smart. No lie! I was a bit in awe.
I have a horrible picture to share (horrible because I am looking my worst...which wasn't hard to do next to a supermodel). I also did a wee bit o shopping and treated myself to a brand spankin' new hand bag. Woot! OK. Gotta collect my stuff and head to the airport. I missed my lil Wolfie super much! And that greg guy too. heh.

HI. It's me again. Did anyone watch The Search for the Next Pussycat Doll? Can we please dish about the outcome??? I didn't like that Asia one bit. "I'm not a violent person. But if we weren't on camera I'd punch you in the face." Nice! Not violent at all. I really liked Chelsea. I know she wasn't a crazy good dancer, but she wasn't terrible. Was she? I dunno. OK. I'm not gonna talk about this unless anyone watched it. And I think it's time for a Top Model round table too. I'll scare up some pictures and post tomorrow. Your attendance is required. hee.

LiveJournal, I've been cheatin' on you. It's not that I don't love you. You're still my fave. But this Flickr is just so tempting. It takes less time...immediate gratification with the pictures and what not.

I've started participating in super cute Tricia's awesome Wardrobe Remix group. If you've never looked at it, you post a head-to-toe shot of what you're wearing on a daily basis. The intention is to kinda show off your own personal style and on a personal level, to see if you spot any trends. For example, that grey cardigan in the pic above? I wear it alot. Like, ALOT alot. Who knew? I'm kind of cheating a bit, in that I've been doing it with my work pal Tanner. He's awesome and has a crazy fun style. We took a weeks worth of pictures and then realized "Er, I guess we have to post these!" So we started it last week. It's fun! You should c'mon over to Flickr and play too.
